Sunday 8 July
Katrinabus departs Liverpool at
9 am
and after 3 hours they enter Scotland
!
4x4 rolls out of Crieff 9.45. Unfortunately
we realise a little bit too late that we haven’t sorted ourselves out with
cash as planned (last opportunity for ATM’s without charges are in Crieff). We
come up with a scheme to go into the local shop in Lochaline and all buy
toothpaste and ask for £200 cash back.
The scenery is beautiful and we stop for
photos as we approach Glencoe. We also have a coffee break at the tourist centre
and stock up on Shortbread. The biscuits lasts about 30 minutes.

Adam, Steven, Chris, Angelica
and Robin. Keith was
behind the camera and Katrina was in the pub. |
The weather is changeable and when we hit
the Corran Ferry it is raining quite hard – when we get to the other side the
sun is just coming out. Quite impressive considering that the ferry takes the
whole of 5 minutes. We take the scenic / coastal single lane road down towards
Lochaline playing dodge sheep as we go. We roll into Lochaline at the same time
that Katrinabus™ rolls into Glencoe tourist centre.
The aim is to do a check dive and get
weights sorted today to avoid faffing when we get on the boat the next day, so
we check out possible entry points for a shore dive while waiting for the rest
of the gang.
We also meet up with Annabel (who runs Lochaline Dive Centre with her partner
Mark) and get a run down of the local drinking holes –
the options are
 | the
Social club – possibly require a membership for the week and beware of the
locals |
 | The
Lochaline Hotel – beware, the owner doesn’t like divers |
We have a great check dive off the Lochaline Hotel Beach. Only a few meters in the bottom drops off to a beautiful wall which goes
down to 60m. There are lots of soft coral, long clawed squat lobster, starfish,
crabs to look at. We all said it was only going to be a relaxed dive down to 20
m. We all kept to that apart from Captain Keith himself who saw something shiny
and decided to hit 27m!(Keith says "Well it was a Conger!")
Dinner was had at the Lochaline Hotel. Good
food, puddings to die for and Chris fell in love with one of the waitresses.
What a start of a great week!
